Puerto Jimenez is a peaceful little town, located on the Gulfo Dulce and on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Tourism hasn’t really arrived in Puerto Jimenez yet – which is on one hand bad for the local economy at times, but on the other hand great for tourists who want to experience one of the last pristine and lesser developed places in Costa Rica.
Puerto Jimenez does not consist of high rises or fancy hotels – the tourist hotels in town are all scattered one or two story houses or “Cabinas”, with a rustic and homey charm. There are also a couple of resorts in town, which offer privacy and their own all inclusive catering.
The beach in Puerto Jimenez is small but nice. Mainly Costa Ricans come here year around on weekends and let their kids play in the soft sand and super smooth water – the plus side in Jimenez there are no waves since it is well protected within the Gulfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf).
